▶ Six in a Row

In the 1980s, Shamrock Rovers entered what is arguably the most successful era in their history. Between 1984 and 1987, Rovers won six consecutive League of Ireland titles, a feat that remains unparalleled in Irish football. During this period, they were also crowned FAI Cup champions several times, asserting their dominance both in the league and in cup competitions. Financial problems did not take long to strike the club: In the 1980s, the Borris club was deeply dominant. ▶ Four in a Row

Since the major decline that set in around the early 1990s, Rovers had been the most successful side in Ireland having successfully defended their FAI Cup title for four consecutive years from 1964 to 1969. However, as new century arrived the technical achievements of Shamrock Rovers started deteriorating and the club became homeless and without any permanent ground.

▶ The Homeless Years (1987–2009)

In 1987 the club was close to analogical disaster when it lost the premises and ownership over the landmark home ground at Glenmalure Park, Milltown. This is popularly known as the “Homeless years” and the Rovers moved from one temporary home to the other including Tolka Park, Dalymount Park and RDS arena. This perpetual state of moving from one ground to another was largely culpable for bringing instability within the club and, of course, on the playing arena.

People came out in their numbers to embrace the club and launched the Shamrock Rovers Members Club (SRMC), to assist in the day to day running. This became instrumental to support the cause of Shamrock Rovers and this was a very relevant time of the club.

▶ Tallaght Stadium and Revival

However, finally in 2009, Shamrock Rovers got an opportunity to play at this stadium with the inauguration of Tallaght Stadium. It was an idea to become a new image for the club and provide them an opportunity to create a modern complex for themselves and also to restore financially and on the field. The club was quick to recover and by the year 2010 the club went ahead to embrace its first League of Ireland title since the ’90s.
